Ultra Pill Nav
A floating glass pill nav that tightens as the page scrolls, with the Aura Dial in it: press U and every Ultra part of the page retunes.
Scroll this box
The nav tightens as you go.
Press U, or click the hexagon, to open the dial. Every part of this page follows the values you set.

/**
* UltraPillNav — a floating glass pill that tightens as the page scrolls, with the reader's dial in it.
*
* Brand, three links, the Aura Dial glyph and one button. Over the first
* 120px of scroll the pill narrows by 220px and its glass fills in, read
* from whatever scrolls it (the window or a scrolling box). The dial opens
* from the corner (or with U) to retune every Ultra asset on the page. On a
* phone the links move into a sheet that closes on Escape or an outside tap.
* Same-page links glide to their section.
*
* Part of the Ultra kit: an adaptive style whose grammar is the viewer. Every
* Ultra asset reads six live values (contrast, warmth, light, density, motion,
* focus) from one shared tuning and re-forms its tone, edges, density and
* tempo to match: move any Ultra control and every Ultra asset on the page
* follows. Values the viewer sets are saved on the device (localStorage
* key ultra:v1); the rest follow the system (prefers-contrast,
* prefers-reduced-motion, prefers-color-scheme) and the time of day. Nothing
* is sent anywhere. Every colour is solved for APCA contrast at runtime, so no
* tuning can make text illegible. Springs are critically damped (no
* overshoot) and motion 0 swaps states. Type through var(--font-ultra)
* (Google Sans Flex, whose GRAD and ROND axes follow contrast) over Geist.
* Paste it as its own file: it carries its own copy of the small engine, and
* copies on one page share a single store through Symbol.for.

Free, yours to ship. Pro adds the heroes, WebGL backgrounds and complete style kits of Ultra, from $19/month (launch price until 31 Oct).
About this component
A nav that sits lightly over a hero and firms up as the reader moves on. It starts as a wide pill with barely any glass; over the first 120 pixels of scroll it narrows and its glass fills in. On the right sits the Aura Dial: a small hexagon of the reader's six values that opens into an instrument (or press U), and the page re-forms as they pull its corners. On a phone the links fold into a sheet that closes on Escape or a tap outside, and same-page links glide to their section.
Curator’s note
Free, with the Aura Dial and the small shared tuning engine inside it. The tightening is one CSS variable written from the scroll, so the nav never re-renders while the page moves. Every Ultra entry reads the same six values (contrast, warmth, light, density, motion, focus) from one shared store, so a change made in any of them re-forms all of them.
Pairs well with
Matched on shared tags and category — the entries most likely to be used alongside this one.
Aura Dial
componentsA 40px hexagon of the viewer's own six values (contrast, warmth, light, density, motion, focus) that opens into an instrument: pull a corner and every Ultra asset on the page retunes live.
Holo Pill Nav
componentsA quiet header: the mark and wordmark left, one outlined glass pill right that fills from below on hover while an asterisk turns in beside the label. A tone prop flips it for dark sections.
Levitating Link Nav
componentsA dark glass nav bar whose link labels hang in the air above a lit shelf, each over its own soft shadow; the link you point at, and the one for the section in view, lands.
