Ink Aura Field
Dark water holding two inks: the pointer paints a pale ink through it as it passes, and a press drops cobalt that lands, blooms outward in a ring and curls into the first. A real GPU fluid with knobs for how far the ink travels, how much it ripples and how long it lingers.

Leave a mark in the water.
Two inks in a real fluid. One follows the hand, one blooms where you press, and they curl into each other.

}About this background
Most hover backgrounds trail a blurred circle behind the cursor. This one is water. An incompressible fluid runs on the GPU every frame: the velocity field carries itself, a vorticity force keeps eddies alive instead of letting them smear, twenty pressure passes keep the water from compressing, and two inks ride the result. Moving the pointer lays a pale ink through the tank. Pressing drops the second ink, cobalt by default, with a ring of outward pressure around it, so it lands, spreads in a ring and breaks into curls that wind through the first ink rather than sitting on top of it. The display pass gives the ink an aura: a near and a far halo are sampled around every pixel and the tone map runs on the brightest channel, so a saturated ink keeps its hue and only the densest core lifts toward white. Travel sets how far a stroke carries, Ripple sets silk or tight curls, Linger sets how long the water stays marked. It opens on one brushstroke and a drop, so the first frame is never empty.
Curator’s note
The single-ink fluid field, grown a second ink: smoke for the hand that passes, a dropped colour for the hand that presses, mixing in the same water. Every quality of the ink is on a knob, so the same engine can read as silk, smoke or a tank of curls.

Chladni Sand Field
backgroundsFine sand on a black vibrating plate. The pointer tunes the plate, so the grains shiver loose and crawl into a new symmetric nodal-line figure; a press strikes it and a shock spreads while the figure re-forms. Real standing-wave maths on the GPU, with knobs for complexity, settle, strike and the calm zone behind your copy.
Reeded Glass Field
backgroundsA pane of fluted glass standing in front of a hidden light. The pointer drags the light behind it, and every rib refracts its own sliver, so the light reads as a comb of luminous shards that slide from rib to rib. A press sends a ripple of curvature through the glass.
Physarum Vein Field
backgroundsA living transport network on black. Hundreds of thousands of slime-mould agents grow a luminous web of veins; your cursor is food, so the web reaches toward it, and a press plants a glowing node the network connects to with thick trunk veins before slowly letting go.
